I find the Fashion industry intriguing; the designers, how trends change, how cultures and eras influence fashion, styling, advertising and the history. I endeavour to work as hard as possible to become part of this amazing industry and I feel a course at Manchester would really help on my journey, after seeing the wide range of areas in fashion that the course covers.

I understand the effort and dedication a career in Fashion will take, and feel my course at college has helped me greatly, with my time management skills and understanding of how workers of industry fulfill their rolls. I also feel that my job at Harvey Nichols has helped greatly with my understanding of designers and trends, and I get to see how the public feel and look in a range of styles and brands.

The theme I have developed for my final collection is Floristry; this is for a number of reasons. Firstly my personal style is very feminine and I like using volume, layering and textures, this is shown in my collection through the colours and fabrics I have chosen to use. I have also grown up in a very creative family, and spent 11 months working in my mother’s floristry shop, regularly creating displays and wedding flowers, which has helped with the research and design ideas behind my collection. The final outcomes of this project will me 4 complete outfits, that I have designed, patterned, toiled and manufactured.

The portfolio I am submitting displays my use of design, illustration, Photo-shop, manufacture, idea development and life drawing.

More recently I have begun to use photo-shop with my illustrations to give a more modern look, I find illustrators such as Laura Laine and Sarah Carter Jenkins , as their work looks so polished and professionally finished with splash of vivid colour and dark charcoals.
